This 1886 residence was home to conceptual artist David Ireland and site of his most significant art installation. In addition to preserving both the building’s historic exterior and the artist-transformed interior spaces, the project includes a new four-story caretaker’s unit, basement level with artist’s archive and reading room, as well as structural and accessibility improvements throughout. The clean, simple forms of the additions create a distinction with the existing house while drawing from Ireland’s use of concrete.
